With the current violence in Iraq, the number of orphans is increasing daily. Their needs include clothing, shoes, school supplies, toys, sports equipment and supplies as well as vocational training programs. Generation Iraq is in direct contact with Baet Al-Toufil orphanage in Baghdad; home to young boys like the one pictured here. It is our hope that these boys will each receive support of $35/month per child to help provide for clothing and other basic needs as indicated above. Each orphan would be in direct contact with his supporter and our staff in Baghdad will assure that letters are translated to English and sent via the internet to the supporter.
Generation Iraq is also helping orphaned girls at the St. Hanna orphanage in Baghdad, like the young girl pictured here. These young ladies are in need of support of $35/month per child, and they will also be able to exchange email with their supporters via email through the offices of Generation Iraq.
Generation Iraq has also taken on the responsibility of supporting 24 orphan girls who have been added to Baet Al-Toufil more recently. These girls face more difficult challenges than most. Having been imprisoned along with their mothers for crimes committed by their mothers, they were released earlier this year. A great deal of work is necessary to help these girls become integrated into society, attend school, and recover from the trauma of prison life where they lived for a long time under extremely harsh conditions.
With a small donation of $35/month per child, you can help provide some of the basic necessities for these young ladies and a measure of comfort in knowing that there are people who truly care about them.
Please call Cassie at 847-814-5905 or e-mail cassie@generationiraq.org if you are interested in sending in-kind donations or planning a funding/supply drive in your area.
