This program offers classes from grade school to university level in various human rights principles. Generation Iraq has obtained approval from the Ministry of Education to develop and teach these classes in the educational system in southern Iraq. Programs fostering educational enlightenment and understanding are needed after years under a brutal dictatorship. The rising generation does not understand the concept of human rights. Generation Iraq staff are helping formulate classes in the principles of human rights, including the rights granted under the new Iraqi Constitution.
A sister program is being developed to teach basic educational classes in prisons. Generation Iraq has been granted permission to present classes in human rights, reading, writing, and civil conduct.
This training will be very helpful in fighting terrorism and crime in the country. Lack of training, opportunity, and hope contributes to a great extent to the reason why many young people turn to violent acts either to express their frustration or as a means to obtain money.
Lectures in Human Rights
In December 2006, Generation Iraq in conjunction with the Women of The Reef Association conducted seminars on the Principles of Human Rights for the youth in Basrah Schools. The students were very interested in what they learned, illustrated by the heated discussions which followed.
Your contribution towards this program helps provide the necessary funds for conducting these classes and the future expansion of these classes to include Baghdad and its outlying areas.
By donating to this program, you will effectively be covering the cost of instructors' salaries, printing costs for booklets and training material, and in some cases transportation costs for the students.
