For decades, the youth of Iraq have been isolated from the rest of the world. They have grown up in a world of fear, violence, hatred, oppression, and propaganda. They have grown up in a world of little happiness or security. While they know that there is another world outside the violence, they have never had any direct contact with it.

Generation Iraq is working to change this through our School Partners Program. School Partners unites schools and students in Iraq with corresponding schools and students in the US. This cultural exchange is a breath of life and hope for many of the Iraqi children, and it is an educational and enlightening experience for the US students as well. Everyone comes away from this experience moved. Students exchange letters, essays, and art.

While initially aimed at connecting schools in Iraq with schools in the U.S., the program expanded in 2007 to include schools in Australia. Our plan is to continue developing this program to include schools in other parts of the world as well.

In order to expand this worthy and successful program, Generation Iraq seeks contributions in order to provide computers or laptops to the schools in Iraq in order to facilitate communication between students. Because most schools in Iraq currently have no access to computers, all the correspondence, particularly in Baghdad and Basra, is currently being done manually by our staff in those regions. Our hope is to provide computers to all the schools that have demonstrated an interest in our School Partners Program over the past year.
