First implemented by Ms. Tamara Quinn while working with Spirit of America, the Orphan's Day program was initiated by Generation Iraq in 2007 and has now become an annual event celebrated on the 1st of April each year. It is an opportunity for our organization to honor these beautiful children and remind them that there are many people who care about them and their future.

A typical Orphan's Day celebration would bring together all the children at Baet El Tifil as well as one or two neighboring orphanages. Generation Iraq staff along with other invited officials would be in attendance. The children normally plan a number of activities such as songs, dances, and a skit for the visitors. A variety of foods, snacks, and beverages are provided for the children and all the donations that have been collected are then distributed to the orphans to enjoy.

This has become a very special event for the children who delight in the gifts they receive and the opportunity to enjoy a delicious meal and mingle with children from other orphanages. It reminds them that they are not forgotten and that they are special and well-loved.

On April 1, 2009, Generation Iraq hosted our third annual World Orphan’s Day. Over 150 children were honored with gifts provided by your generous contributions. Many of the participants came from the Al-Zubair kindergarten in the southern city of Basrah. They were overjoyed with the gifts, singing songs, making speeches, and playing games.  All was done under the supervision of our wonderful Director Ahood Al-Fadhly

Generation Iraq welcomes your generous donations to this program. We accept gently-used clothing and shoes, books, school supplies, new toys, and financial support to provide the food and decorations for the event.
