Generation Iraq is constructing two living memorial orchards to honor the people killed since the Iraq War began in March, 2003. One orchard will be dedicated to American lives lost; the other, Iraqi lives.

The Iraqi memorial will reside on the same land as a grove of date palm trees planted in memory of the deceased. The American memorial will be erected among the acres of olive trees planted in memory of American forces killed in Iraq.

In addition to honoring the memory of fallen soldiers, the trees will have a positive impact on Iraq’s environment, helping reverse the devastating effects of deforestation under Saddam Hussein’s regime. Also, the work of maintaining the land and harvesting olives and/or dates will employ Iraqis currently living in poverty. The sale of olives, olive oil, and dates will help stimulate the economy in Iraq, as well as generate funds to maintain the orchards.

For each donation of $20, a tree will be planted in living memorial, or a name will be engraved on a plaque. You may submit the name of an individual to honor via e-mail to cassie@generationiraq.org. If you do not have a name to submit, or if a tree has already been planted in memory of your submission, Generation Iraq will identify another individual to be honored.

You may also choose to make annual donations of $5 per event to have a memorial flower placed near the tree of your loved one on significant dates.
