Mission Statement:
Generation Iraq is an international non-profit organization which seeks to improve the lives of individuals and communities in Iraq. Our vision is that Iraqis become self-sustaining individuals, working together to rebuild their homeland. We do this by meeting immediate needs and also providing individuals with the resources they require for advancement. We endeavor to instill compassion and care in and for Iraq's communities, building towards a common goal of peace, security, and prosperity.
Dear Friends,
One of the great joys of preparing an annual report is looking back at where we started and seeing how far we have come. This past year has seen plenty of challenges, and even more opportunity. As Einstein once said, “In the middle of every difficulty lies opportunity.” We have embraced these opportunities and some of our highlights include:
- Generation Iraq teams up with Hands Across the Sea for a project that consists of children drawing and coloring a cut-out of their hands and sending them to other communities within Iraq as a sign of peace.
- Iraqi Disabled Program begins.
- Generation Iraq provides bottled water during final exams to the School Partners Program students in Iraq.
- Thirty-three students in Basrah write letters to a class in New Orleans expressing their sympathies about the devastation of Katrina and enclose a flower and one or two dollars of their own money to help the children of Katrina in their time of need.
- Working with Dr. Norvick at International Children’s Heart Foundation, Generation Iraq provides a baby girl with heart surgery to repair a hole in her heart.
- Generation Iraq continues the Orphan’s Day program, originally created by Tamara Quinn while working with Spirit of America, and making it an annual event.
- Baseball Beyond Borders begins with the help of USAID and in association with the Department of State and the Millennium Relief and Development Service. The project was the idea of five gifted students at Central Christian School in Clayton, Missouri: Abby, Alex, Clare, Elijah, and Nathan who wanted to share their favorite sport with Iraqi Children.
- With the assistance of Patrick from Take Pride, t-shirts are manufactured using artwork provided by two of the children from the Art Conference, Mary and Yaser. These t-shirts are currently available through our online store. Fifty percent of the proceeds from the sale of these t-shirts goes to support our Orphans’ Program. (link online store)
- Generation Iraq sponsors an Art Conference in Basrah in which orphans have an opportunity to tell their personal stories and express their feelings about violence, terrorism, and corruption through art.
- School Partners Program continues and expands to include Australia.
