Under the patronage of United States Institute for Peace (USIP), youths from Generation Iraq and various other organizations participated in a workshop for peace and national reconciliation.
These youths, representing a variety of sects and different social backgrounds within the areas of conflict in Iraq, gathered in Dalaslama, India in March 2008. Along with 37 members of various other organizations they received training on the development of peace within Iraq, which would, in turn, lead to national reconciliation. There were various discussions on how to target youth from different sects, particularly within areas of conflict where violence and sectarianism are widespread, and guide them towards participating in finding solutions to their problems through positive dialogue. Methods on embracing peace, forgiveness and put an end to division and sectarian wars were discussed and drafted for future implementation.
The gathering was meant as an open dialogue between youth from different religious and ethnic backgrounds, helping create an exchange of ideas, shared information, and the development of a partnership, aimed at a common goal of achieving peace, security and reconciliation among the various communities.
These conferences and workshops are essential to generate awareness of the ongoing conflicts, issues, and problems facing youth in Iraq. They contribute to opening up the channels of communication, not only among Iraqis of different sects and backgrounds, but also with the rest of the world.
Your donation to this program helps provide the funds necessary for travel, meals, as well as the printing of related materials.
