The experience of dealing with consistent violence for the majority of one's life is difficult, to say the least. Anyone who has experienced such trauma may have trouble expressing their experiences through words. This can be especially difficult for children who have not yet developed the proper verbal skills to convey their emotions. With the Comfort Through Art Program, Generation Iraq hopes to provide the opportunity for nonverbal expression and communication which these young people so desperately need.
Generation Iraq plans to provide visiting instructors to the various orphanages sponsored by our organization. These instructors will be screened and selected by our local Project Directors within Iraq and will be required to have a background in social programs, with particular emphasis on working with children. Generation Iraq will provide these instructors with training manuals to assist them in implementing this program. Because art therapy is virtually non-existent in Iraq, this program will serve as a pilot program that can, in the future, be implemented in other orphanages and even in schools around the country. In order to implement this program, Generation Iraq also aims to provide the children in Iraq with Artists' Kits that can be used to create artwork, either individually or as a group project.
Your generous donations to this program will help cover the costs of the translation of training manuals into Arabic, printing costs, instructors' salaries, as well as the cost of art supplies for the children.
