Iraqi Youth Dialogue for Peace and Reconciliation (IYD)
Dalaslama, India
March 11-19, 2008

Iraqi Youth Dialogue for Peace and Reconciliation (IYD)

Under the patronage of United States Institute for Peace (USIP), youths from Generation Iraq and various other organizations participated in a workshop for peace and national reconciliation.

These youths representing different sects and different social backgrounds within the areas of conflict in Iraq, gathered in Dalaslama, India to receive training, along with 37 members of various other organizations, on the development of peace within Iraq, which would, in turn, lead to national reconciliation. There were various discussions on how to target youth from different sects, particularly within areas of conflict where violence and sectarianism are widespread, and guide them towards participating in finding solutions for their problems through positive dialogue; how to encourage them to embrace peace, forgiveness and put an end to division and sectarian wars.

The gathering was meant as an open dialogue between youth from different religious and ethnic backgrounds, helping create an exchange of ideas, shared information, and the development of a partnership, aimed at a common goal of achieving peace, security and reconciliation among the various communities.
